How to Apply
Applications for all Children’s National Hospital postdoctoral fellowships must be received on or before Dec. 1, 2022. Please refer to each fellowship training description for details about the application.
Requirements for Matriculation
Fellows must have completed all requirements for their doctoral degree prior to starting in their postdoctoral fellowship. All fellows are also required to have a D.C. psychology associate license prior to the start of their fellowship. Those fellows working in Maryland (either in-person or telehealth care with families living in Maryland) will need a Maryland psychology associate license as well. Please note, for the D.C. psychology associate license, the D.C. Board uses when the degree is conferred as the time of completion (versus when all degree requirements have been met). This is a process that
needs to be started several months prior to the fellowship start. More details about applying for the D.C. and Maryland psychology associate licenses this will be provided after fellowship offers are made.
All Occupational Health requirements and pre-employment requirements must be satisfied prior to start date. The District of Columbia Municipal Regulation Title 22 requires new employees/trainees to have a physical health screen. In addition, Children’s National requires proof of immunity for Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) and Flu (seasonal). All applicants must complete the required labs and urine drug screening, which will test for the following: ETOH, amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine metabolites, marijuana metabolites, opiates and phencyclidines. A positive result for any of these substances will potentially make the candidate ineligible for hire.
A background check is also required, which will pull information from the following databases below. Under D.C. law, Children’s National is barred from hiring anyone with a conviction within the prior 7 years related to abuse, illegal substances or theft. Children’s National is prohibited from hiring anyone who is a registered sex offender, or who has been excluded from federal healthcare programs. Therefore, any history related to these prohibitions will make the candidate ineligible for hire. Inability to verify stated previous employment or education will also make the candidate ineligible for hire.
