How We Care for Airway Disorders
George Zalzal, M.D., the division chief and international authority on airway reconstruction, coordinates your child’s care with the program's dedicated care team.
Our specialists evaluate and treat children from around the world for various pediatric airway disorders, including (but not limited to):
- Long-term breathing problems
- An obstruction or blockage in the airway
- Complications from surgical procedures like a tracheotomy (a procedure performed on the neck to open the airway)
Because airway abnormalities are unique for each patient, so too is the care your child receives. Children’s National physicians and specialists evaluate and manage each patient individually. A consultation includes a complete evaluation of the upper aerodigestive tract (airway, pulmonary and upper digestive) and we discuss potential options for treatment with you and your family.
