The Division of Dermatology at Children's National Hospital continues to expand services as more families seek our expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the skin, hair and nails. In addition to treating common skin conditions, our pediatric dermatologists are specially trained to recognize, diagnose and manage skin conditions that occur more often or only in infants and younger patients. When your child needs coordinated multidisciplinary care, we work together with our many other pediatric subspecialists at Children's National.

Specialized Care for Kids
Many different skin conditions require clinical care by a healthcare professional. Dermatologists can help recognize signs of certain underlying or internal medical conditions with associated skin disorders. We treat common concerns like acne, childhood eczema (atopic dermatitis), fungal infections (ringworm), poison ivy and warts. Importantly, complex pediatric concerns, such as congenital, infectious, parasitic, tumorous and secondary disorders caused by underlying systemic conditions are also treated. We help evaluate children with complex congenital conditions or inherited syndromes because so many of these involve the skin, hair and nails.
Our team also has experience in managing severe reactions to medications, such as toxic epidermal necrolysis, a potentially life-threatening skin disorder.
The division's specialists perform diagnostic tests, including biopsies, fungal cultures and a full range of medical and minor surgical procedures to treat infectious and non-infectious skin conditions, including:
- Laser surgery for vascular lesions and birthmarks
- Liquid nitrogen cryosurgery
- Surgery for moles and skin cancer

Dermatologic and Vascular Laser Surgery Service Clinic (Rockville, MD)
Anna Yasmine Kirkorian, M.D., sees patients at the Dermatologic and Vascular Laser Surgery Service Clinic for the laser treatment of vascular anomalies and scars. She offers specialized treatments in port wine stains, infantile hemangiomas, and scars from surgery, burns, trauma or other causes.
Laser consultation and treatment appointments can be scheduled with Dr. Kirkorian at the Montgomery County location in Rockville, Maryland.

Xavion's Story
Sometimes a mom's intuition is all it takes to get her child to the right physician. When 8-year-old Xavion Chisley developed a fungal infection on his toe, his mother, Nikki, immediately took him to see a dermatologist who removed his toenail to treat the infection. However, when Xavion's toenail grew back, the infection had not diminished but actually appeared to be spreading to his foot.
