At Children’s National, we use the clinical research conducted by the Diabetes Program to improve your child’s quality of life and long-term management of their condition. Through research and clinical trials, we are exploring initiatives which include risk identification, prevention, drug candidate investigation and “smart” device development for Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Highlights of our research efforts include:
- Collaboration with the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) initiative to identify at-risk populations of Type 1 diabetes through the TrialNet study.
- Participation in type 2 diabetes exploratory anti-diabetic drug trials through the Pediatric Diabetes Consortium. Learn more.
- Leading behavioral research to improve the care of youth with Type 1 diabetes. Read more.
- Conducting Type 2 medication research and testing the efficacy of the iLet bionic pancreas — a device that automatically regulates blood sugar levels in patients with Type 1 diabetes.
- Addressing the shortage of psychologists who can treat the specific needs of people with Type 1 diabetes through our Diabetes Psychology Fellowship.
