Hyperactivity, Attention, and Learning Problems Clinic (HALP)
The Hyperactivity, Attention and Learning Problems (HALP) Clinic provides high-quality behavioral healthcare to children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and their families. The clinic was established in 1997 and has been under the direction of Lisa Efron, Ph.D., since 2003. It is based at Children’s National Northern Virginia, in Fairfax, and treats children and families from throughout the D.C. metropolitan region.
Our HALP clinic staff are trained in treatment approaches supported by the latest research, and regularly engage in professional development. We collaborate with colleagues across a variety of areas, such as primary care, neurodevelopmental pediatrics, neuropsychology and psychiatry, to provide your child with the full scope of integrated care.

Highlights of Our Clinic
We offer a variety of services to help children and their families, including:
- Education about ADHD and ADHD treatments
- Individualized or group behavioral parent training, to help parents of ADHD youth in managing children’s challenging behaviors
- Individual therapy to address ADHD symptoms and associated issues
- Family therapy with parents and youth, to address ADHD and associated issues
In addition, we are committed to training the next generation of healthcare providers and are regularly involved in the education of psychology and medical trainees.
Clinical Research
HALP clinic staff are actively involved in clinical research. Dr. Efron works with the Psychiatry Clinical Trials team, serving as a sub-investigator for a variety of industry-sponsored clinical trials designed to address childhood mental health conditions. She is a sub-investigator on the NIH-funded TPAC Program, a treatment and research collaboration between Children’s National Hospital, The University of Maryland and Seattle Children’s Hospital.
