There are more than 400 types of skeletal dysplasias, which affect bones and joints, and interfere with development. The more recognized forms include achondroplasia and other types of short stature, osteogenesis imperfecta, often referred to as brittle bone disease, and birth defects such as club foot or limb deficiencies.
Whether your child has a mild or more severe skeletal dysplasia, treatment requires the expertise of specialists from many disciplines who can make the initial diagnosis and provide appropriate care as the child grows. Specialists can often make a prenatal diagnosis so care planning can begin as soon as possible.
