Hiring Process

First, search for jobs that you find of interest. Then, click “apply for this job online,” and you will be prompted to create an online profile, including an opportunity to upload your resume and any other appropriate documents (i.e., cover letter, letters of recommendation, certifications or transcripts), complete a Talent Plus assessment and employment application.

Your profile will be reviewed by a member of our Talent Acquisition team. If there is a match between your credentials and the position you have applied to, a recruiter or hiring manager will contact you by telephone or email. If you are not selected for a telephone screen or an in-person interview, your resume will remain in our online database for future reference. You may view the status of jobs for which you applied and update your resume in our applicant tracking system at any time by logging into your online profile with your username and password. If you forget your password, there are prompts on the log-in page to aid you in password recovery.

You may be asked to complete a brief telephone screening with a member of our Talent Acquisition team. Telephone screenings are an effective way to discuss your qualifications and any other details that might be helpful for our team to note. Once screened by the Talent Acquisition team, your application will be sent to the appropriate hiring manager for review. If the hiring manager feels that you are a good fit for the role, the next step may be to schedule you for an in-person or virtual interview. If you are selected for the in-person interview, you will be contacted by the hiring team or the Recruiter via a meeting invite that will include the location of your interview. For virtual interviews, you will receive a meeting invite from the recruiter or a member of the Talent Acquisition team that will include dial-in details.

Offers are made verbally then sent via email. All employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of the pre-employment background check, drug screening and all Occupational Health screenings.

Once you have accepted the offer of employment, you will receive an email from our external background check vendor, Sterling Talent Solutions. This will include verification of current and past employment, education verification, criminal record, etc. If you have foreign education that needs to be verified, it will go through a separate vendor. Once you submit your background check you will be sent instructions from Sterling Talent Solutions to complete your Occupational Health screening visits.

Approximately five days after you have accepted your new position with Children’s National, you will receive a “Welcome” email from the Talent Acquisition Team. It explains how to log into the website to complete your first set of new hire forms within the onboarding portal. You will also receive an email from your designated Talent Acquisition coordinator that will contain instructions for scheduling presentation of work authorization documents (I-9), self-submission of badge photo and other pertinent reminders. The I-9 document presentation takes place in-person at our downtown Silver Spring office location. Your coordinator will be your main point of contact through the onboarding process. Occupational health clearance is a requirement prior to starting in your new role. This will include bloodwork, a urine drug screen, a physical examination and acquiring any necessary immunizations or boosters.

After the background check and Occupational Health requirements are completed and cleared, you will be scheduled to attend Children’s National Power of One (new hire orientation), which takes place on your first day of employment. You will be informed by a Talent Acquisition Coordinator if this will be virtual or in-person. Depending on your role, you may participate in additional training and orientations as well.
