Academic Pediatric Acute Care Fellowship
Children’s National Hospital Academic Pediatric Acute Care Fellowship is delighted to announce that enrollment for the academic year July 2024 - June 2025 is now open. The fellowship training program is one year long with the option to extend the training to a second year. We accept up to two acute care fellows per academic year.
The fellowship is designed for clinicians who desire additional clinical and procedural training before practicing in academic or community emergency and acute care settings. We aim to prepare physicians for a career as excellent clinicians, as well as leaders in acute care medicine.
First Such Fellowship to Gain APA Accreditation
The Academic Pediatric Acute Care Fellowship at Children’s National is the first of its kind to be accredited by the Academic Pediatric Association (APA). This means that the program is raising the bar and being held to a standard of excellence in training pediatricians in acute care medicine. Our team is readying its pediatric workforce to meet the needs of patients seeking urgent/acute care, a type of care that has grown in demand since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fellows will achieve the goals and objectives of the program through:
- Caring for patients directly in the emergency department and Fast Track settings
- Working alongside pediatric emergency medicine and clinical pediatrician colleagues
- Supervising other trainees
- Completing a comprehensive curriculum that includes conferences, didactics, simulation sessions and multiple subspecialty elective experiences with a strong focus on academic and clinical excellence
