The Children's National Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Residency Program provides learning experiences centered on patient care and practice management that will enable residency graduates to pursue centralized or decentralized clinical pharmacist positions in pediatrics after completion of the program. The program will also prepare the resident for Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) residency programs as well as future board certification. The residency program will also provide teaching opportunities that will develop pedagogical skills in the context of adjunct faculty appointments with affiliated pharmacy schools. A required teaching certificate program will be available through the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in Baltimore.  The Division of Pharmacy is affiliated with Howard University School of Pharmacy, University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, Virginia Commonwealth University and Shenandoah University as well as other pharmacy schools around the country.

More than 100 pharmacists have completed our PGY1 residency since the start of the program in 1980. Children’s National is a participating member of the ASHP Residency Matching Program for the two PGY1 positions.  There is also a third spot that is reserved for the Nontraditional Track which completes the program over two years while alternating between rotations and working in a distributive role within the department.  This spot is currently only for internal applicants.
